1 Choose the right time and seed
Sow in early autumn or spring when the soil is moderately warm and has enough moisture. Choose a mix for sun, shade, or intense traffic according to the actual conditions of the plot.
2 Clean and level the soil
Remove stones, weeds, and construction waste, dig up the compacted top layer, and level the slope so that water drains away from the house. The soil should be fine but not dusty.
3 Distribute the seed evenly
Divide the seed into two equal quantities. Sow the first half lengthwise, the second half crosswise, using a hand spreader or measured strokes, according to the label instructions.
? Tip: Save a handful of the same mix for overseeding sparse spots after the final lawn density is shown.
4 Press the seed and water gently
Rake the seed shallowly to 0.5 cm and go over it with a light roller. Water with a fine sprayer so you don’t create gullies and move the seed.
⚠ Warning: Do not cover the seed with a thick layer of soil and do not water with a strong jet; both procedures create bare areas and uneven germination.
5 Maintain moisture until the first mowing
Keep the top layer constantly moist with short watering sessions once or more times a day, depending on the weather. Mow for the first time with a sharp blade when the grass reaches 8–10 cm, cutting it by at most a third.
