⚠ Safety note: This guide involves working with electricity. If you're not completely sure about every step, stop and call a licensed professional. Before you start, always switch off the power at the breaker or close the main water/gas valve.
1 Prepare safe working conditions
Switch off the appropriate circuit breaker, mark it against accidental switching on, and use an appropriate two-pole voltage tester to confirm the absence of voltage before touching conductors.

⚠ Warning: Mains voltage can be fatal. If you cannot reliably switch off and confirm the absence of voltage, if conductor colors are unclear, or if the installation is damaged, do not continue alone.
2 Determine condition and cause
Check batteries if the system uses them and test another button or melody. For wireless doorbells, re-pair the units according to instructions.
3 Conduct key inspection
Clean the external button and inspect accessible contacts only when power is off. Moisture and corrosion often interrupt the signal.
4 Perform repair or maintenance
For wired doorbells, measure the transformer and wiring only if you know the system. The mains side of the transformer must be inspected by an electrician.
? Tip: Photograph the initial state and change only one thing at a time. That way you’ll more easily determine what actually solved the problem.
5 Test the result
Replace covers and protection before switching on power. Test function without touching open parts; heating, buzzing, sparking, or ejection of protection require an electrician.

When to call a professional: If the job involves changes to the electrical panel, the main gas line, or load-bearing walls/beams — or if you're not sure how it will turn out — this is not a DIY task. Hire a licensed professional.
