1 Determine the purpose of the water

If the water is used for human or animal consumption, exclusively use procedures and agents approved for drinking water reservoirs. This basic procedure is intended for garden water and watering.

2 Empty the container in an appropriate place

Disconnect the inlet and drain the water away from wells and watercourses. Do not move the container while it is full; a large mass of water can damage the container and injure a person.

3 Mechanically remove deposits

Scrub the walls, bottom, cover, and faucet with a brush and warm water with a little detergent. Do not enter a large closed cistern; clean it with a long-handled tool or hire a professional service.

4 Disinfect according to the label

Prepare the exact dilution of the approved agent, wet the surfaces evenly, and leave for the prescribed contact time. Do not mix chlorine agents with acids, vinegar, or other cleaners.

⚠ Warning: Mixing bleach with vinegar or acidic products releases toxic gas. Use only one product and work in a well-ventilated area.

5 Rinse thoroughly and prevent algae return

Rinse with clean water until the odor and foam disappear, then dry or refill according to purpose. Place an opaque cover, reduce light entry, and regularly clean the inlet mesh.

? Tip: Algae return fastest when light passes through plastic; shading and a solid cover often help more than frequent chemical treatment.
